“Nightway”: Swiss Air Force trains in Norway

Bern, 10.11.2016 - From Monday, 14 November until Friday, 9 December 2016, the Swiss Air Force will hold its international training exercise “Nightway”, in Ørland, Norway.

130 Swiss Air Force personnel, in two detachments consisting of 36 pilots, 93 ground crew members and one systems operator, will travel to Ørland with eight F/A-18 combat jets and two reserve aircraft. “Nightway”, the overseas training exercise that takes place in Norway, provides the Swiss Air Force with the opportunity to use the large training areas over the North Sea and to train with Norwegian Air Force pilots. The training programme also allows the Swiss Air Force pilots to train at night and to practice low-altitude aerial combat during the day, neither of which can be done easily in Switzerland because the country is so densely populated.

The “Nightway” training exercise is held on the basis of an agreement concluded between Switzerland and the Norwegian Defence Ministry.
