Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer receives Turkmenistan Finance Minister

Bern, 08.11.2016 - On 8 November 2016, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer received the Turkmenistan Finance Minister Muhammetguly Muhammedov on a visit to Bern. Both finance ministers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on technical cooperation in the financial sector.

Both finance ministers reiterated in their talks and with the MoU that the two countries would like to intensify their cooperation in financial issues in the future. Turkmenistan should benefit from Switzerland's financial know-how and strengthen its own financial sector.

Turkmenistan is a member of the Swiss constituency in the Bretton Woods Institutions (World Bank and International Monetary Fund). In the financial sector, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) supports the Central Bank of Turkmenistan. The SNB's support during the last monetary reforms in 2009 was appreciated by Turkmenistan. A double taxation agreement between Switzerland and Turkmenistan has been in force since 2013.
