Switzerland regrets Israel's decision to approve new constructions in settlement in the occupied Palestinian territory

Bern, 06.10.2016 - The FDFA views the Israeli settlements as a violation of international humanitarian law and as a major obstacle to peace and the implementation of a two-state solution.

The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) regrets the decision of the Israeli government to approve the construction of new residential units near Shilo in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The FDFA is concerned about this decision, as well as about the expansion of settlements in general, which has gained considerably in intensity in 2016. The FDFA views the Israeli settlements as a violation of international humanitarian law and as a major obstacle to peace and the implementation of a two-state solution.

The FDFA calls on the government of Israel to cease all settlement activities and to contribute to a just and lasting peace on the basis of a negotiated two-state solution.
