Universal Postal Union: second mandate for Deputy Director General Pascal Clivaz

Biel/Bienne, 06.10.2016 - Pascal Clivaz of Switzerland was re-elected to the post of Deputy Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for the 2017-2020 period. This decision was taken by the plenipotentiaries of the Union's member countries at the 26th UPU Congress, which is currently taking place in Istanbul (Turkey).

As Deputy Director General of the UPU, Pascal Clivaz, whose candidacy was officially supported by Switzerland, is currently one of Switzerland's top representatives on a UN organisation. He was elected for a first four-year term during the 2012 Congress in Doha. Before this he had held various positions in the Union since 2005. This high-level nomination consolidates Switzerland's presence in an important international organisation.

In Istanbul, UPU delegates agreed that Switzerland should stay a member of the Postal Operations Council, a body that aims to help modernize and optimise the Union's products and services, and become a member of the UPU Council of Administration. Since 2012, the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) has represented Swiss interests at the UPU, which is headquartered in Bern. The Congress began on 20 September and continues until October 7.
