Economic accounts for agriculture 2016: Estimates – Mixed year for agriculture, saved by fall in production costs

Neuchâtel, 04.10.2016 - (FSO) - Income in the Swiss agricultural sector has risen by 6.2% in 2016 compared with the previous year and is above the average of the past five years. This rise follows the sharp decline of 2015. Although it has been a particularly bad year for the major crops, the drop in production costs and an upswing on the pork and beef markets have had a positive influence on the overall result. These initial estimates are based on the economic accounts for agriculture compiled by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
