Federal Councillor Maurer at meeting of German-speaking finance ministers

Bern, 23.08.2016 - Today, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer attended the informal working meeting of German-speaking finance ministers in Vaduz. He discussed current financial and fiscal policy issues with his counterparts Wolfgang Schäuble (Germany), Hans Jörg Schelling (Austria), Adrian Hasler (Liechtenstein) and Pierre Gramegna (Luxembourg).

During the traditional meeting, the German-speaking finance ministers addressed economic and political developments in Europe, particularly the consequences of the Brexit vote in the UK.

They also discussed the implementation of international standards for the automatic exchange of information in tax matters, and the taxation of companies operating internationally. Regarding the international BEPS project launched by the OECD, which addresses base erosion and profit shifting using so-called aggressive tax practices, they broached especially implementation in the EU relative to the OECD standard. Finally, financial market regulation was discussed, taking particular account of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The German-speaking finance ministers meet annually in order to exchange ideas on topical issues in an informal setting. Switzerland will host the meeting in 2017.
