Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer completes talks at WEF Annual Meeting
Bern, 22.01.2016 - Meetings with the Italian Finance Minister Pier Carlo Padoan and the IMF's Managing Director Christine Lagarde today concluded the talks held by Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2016. Speaking to the media, the Head of the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) took a positive view of the considerable number of international talks in Davos.
With the Italian Finance Minister Pier Carlo Padoan, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer discussed the status of implementation of the Roadmap on the Way Forward in Fiscal and Financial Issues, which was signed in February 2015, as well as the next steps regarding the new cross-border commuters agreement, which was initialled at the end of December 2015. Thomas Jordan, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank (SNB), was also present for the meeting with IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, during which the quota and governance reforms under way at the IMF and the IMF's role in reining in government debt were discussed.
On Thursday, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer met with his German counterpart, Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble. They spoke about Switzerland's commitment to the implementation of the automatic exchange of information (AEOI) in tax matters as well as in relation to the Global Forum peer review. The talks with the Secretary-General of the OECD Angel Gurría and the European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici also focused on the forthcoming introduction of the AEOI. Finally, Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer discussed bilateral cooperation on tax administrative assistance with Arun Jaitley, Finance Minister of India.
Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer held further talks with Agustín Carstens, Chairman of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) and Governor of Banco de México, together with SNB Chairman Thomas Jordan, as well as with European Commissioner Jonathan Hill.
