President Schneider-Ammann meets US Vice President Biden in Zurich

Bern, 18.01.2016 - On 18 January, President Johann N. Schneider-Ammann met the Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, in Zurich. The talks focused on international issues and education policy matters. The Swiss president and the US vice president stressed the excellent relations between the two countries.

At their informal meeting, President Schneider-Ammann and Vice President Biden exchanged views on the international issues, the close relations between the two countries and cooperation in the field of education. Vice President Biden reiterated the thanks of the United States for Switzerland's important support in the recent exchange of prisoners between the USA and Iran.

At the meeting, the Swiss president and the US vice president also stressed their intention to strengthen cooperation on vocational education and training. The starting point for this was Prof. Dr. Jill Biden's participation in the first International Congress on Vocational Education and Training in Winterthur in 2014.

The Swiss president emphasised Switzerland's strong interest in the state of the ongoing negotiations between the United States and the European Union on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). President Schneider-Ammann stated that Switzerland was counting on the possibility for third countries to be able to join the partnership if appropriate.

Both sides affirmed the excellent relations between Switzerland and the United States. President Schneider-Ammann and Vice President Biden will open the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos on Wednesday.
