Swiss Customs issues warning against fraudulent messages

(Last modification 27.11.2015)

Bern, 27.11.2015 - Citizens have recently been receiving growing numbers of messages that supposedly originate from the Federal Customs Administration. The Federal Customs Administration is issuing a warning concerning these messages and recommends ignoring them and deleting them.

More and more frequently, citizens are receiving phishing messages as text messages or e-mails that supposedly originate from the Federal Customs Administration (FCA). Swiss Customs would like to point out that it does not send information by text message or e-mail when financial transactions are involved.

In the case of e-mails which originate from Swiss Customs, the sender always has an official address along the lines of: name@ezv.admin.ch. For the most part, phishing e-mails request account or personal data to be transmitted. Two current examples can be found in the right-hand column.

What can those affected do?

Swiss Customs recommends ignoring and deleting messages of this nature. In addition, those affected can report phishing e-mails to the Confederation's Reporting and Analysis Centre for Information Assurance MELANI.

People cheated out of money as a result of the message can file charges at their local police station and also notify MELANI.
