President Sommaruga to meet Dutch King and Prime Minister

Bern, 19.11.2015 - President Simonetta Sommaruga will be travelling to The Hague on Monday. She will be paying a courtesy visit to King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and will have a work meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Their talks will centre on both countries’ European policies, particularly as the Netherlands will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2016.

President Sommaruga will inform her conversation partners of Switzerland's ongoing consultations with the European Union. They will also discuss the Netherland's aims for their Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as well as European migration and asylum policy, counter-terrorism issues and the current situation in Syria and Ukraine. Another topic will be peace promotion and the sustainable use of water - an issue to which both Switzerland and the King of the Netherlands are committed.
