Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard to pay a working visit to Chile

Bern, 22.10.2015 - Next Wednesday, Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard will travel to Chile for an official working visit. In Santiago, the head of DETEC will sign two agreements governing intensified cooperation between Switzerland and Chile in the areas of energy and the environment. She will also be meeting other representatives of the Chilean government, and attending a number of events focusing on energy, environment and infrastructure policy.

During her three-day visit, Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard will be meeting the Chilean energy minister, Máximo Pacheco, on Thursday 29 October to sign a Memorandum of Understanding concerning intensified cooperation between Switzerland and Chile in the areas of infrastructure planning and promotion of energy efficiency. The head of DETEC will also be concluding a Memorandum of Understanding with environment minister Pablo Badenier concerning a bilateral exchange in the areas of climate protection, biodiversity and “green economy”. She will then inaugurate an energy efficiency project in which Switzerland is to participate, and open a touring exhibition of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy called “Watt d’Or – Swiss Energy Excellence”.

On Friday 30 October, Federal Councillor Leuthard will attend an event involving government and business representatives, which will focus on the future energy supply of both countries. She will also be participating in a discussion on the topic of infrastructure.

On Saturday 31 October, she will be visiting a copper mine and Swiss company Argor-Heraeus. 

Federal Councillor Leuthard is visiting Chile at the invitation of its energy and environment ministers. During her visit she will be accompanied by a number of business representatives from the clean-tech sector and the areas of infrastructure, renewable energy, energy efficiency and  prevention of natural hazards.

A press release will be issued during the morning of 30 October (Swiss time) regarding the signature of the two Memorandums of Understanding.

On the afternoon of Friday 30 October, Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard will be holding an informal session with representatives of the press (premises and precise time to be announced).
