Swedish Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist pays official visit to Switzerland

Bern, 02.04.2015 - Ueli Maurer, Head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport, has received his Swedish counterpart, Minister of Defence Peter Hultqvist, for an official visit in Bern. The meeting focused on both mutual cooperation and regular contacts between the two countries on security, defence and military training matters. The ministers met for the first time since the general election in Sweden last September.

Swiss Minister of Defence Ueli Maurer has received his Swedish counterpart Peter Hultqvist for an official two-day visit to Bern. Switzerland and Sweden regularly exchange views on armed forces development, security policy and military training.

The subjects discussed during the meeting included the international security situation - particularly the conflict in Ukraine and the growth of the Islamic State in the Middle East - the reorganisation of the Swedish and Swiss armed forces, and the two countries' bilateral cooperation on military training and equipment. Defence Minister Hultqvist also outlined the latest technical developments concerning the Gripen aircraft, and the head of the DDPS noted his comments.

The meeting between the two ministries was considered distinguished and constructive. The defence ministers were meeting for the first time since the Swedish general election in September 2014.
