Conditions of study and life at Swiss higher education institutions – High level of student employment

Neuchâtel, 26.02.2015 - (FSO) - Three quarters of students are employed during their studies. On average, income from employment accounts for almost 40% of their revenue. In 2013, students had a median income of CHF 2000 per month. Their average study costs in 2013 were CHF 1321 per semester. More than half of students who undertook an academic stay abroad did so within the framework of an EU programme such as Erasmus. These are the findings of the 2013 Survey on the Social and Economic Conditions of Student Life which was conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) for the third time following previous surveys in 2005 and 2009.
