Working visit of Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf to Luxembourg

Bern, 12.02.2015 - Today, Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, Head of the Federal Department of Finance (FDF), met Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna for a working visit in Luxembourg. The topics of the meeting included the planned introduction of the automatic exchange of information in the two countries and issues to do with financial market regulation and market access for financial services.

The two finance ministers discussed the procedure relating to the exchange of tax-related information and informed each other specifically on the current status of the work on implementing the new global standard on the automatic exchange of information in tax matters. In addition, Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf and Pierre Gramegna discussed the progress made in the OECD on new corporate taxation standards. Switzerland and Luxembourg are both in favour of these standards.

Other topics in the working visit were international financial market regulation, the debt crisis in the eurozone and market access for financial service providers in the European Union and for Switzerland. Luxembourg will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2015.
