New Swiss ambassadors
Bern, 17.12.2014 - A number of staff changes have been announced for several Swiss representations abroad and at the head office of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The changes will take place in 2015 as part of the usual transfer rotation and on the basis of appointments made by the Federal Council. The appointment of heads of missions abroad becomes effective following approval by the respective host state. The Federal Council thanks those ambassadors entering retirement for their services.
Ivo Sieber, currently head of mission in Manila, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Thailand, the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the Lao People's Democratic Republic, based in Bangkok.
Massimo Baggi, currently head of mission in Milan, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Morocco, succeeding Ambassador Bertrand Louis, who will retire.
Ruth Huber, currently regional head of the SDC cooperation office in Vientiane, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Republic of Zambia, and the Republic of Malawi, based in Harare. She will succeed Ambassador Luciano Lavizzari, who will retire.
Aldo de Luca, currently head of Minsk office of the Swiss embassy in Warsaw, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the State of Kuwait and to the Kingdom of Bahrain, based in Kuwait.
Florence Tinguely Mattli, currently ambassador and head (job sharing) of the Europe, Central Asia, Council of Europe and OSCE Division in the Directorate of Political Affairs in Bern, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the (job sharing) the United Republic of Tanzania.
Arthur Mattli, currently ambassador and head (job sharing) of the Europe, Central Asia, Council of Europe and OSCE Division in the Directorate of Political Affairs in Bern, will become the new ambassador (job sharing) and representative of Switzerland to the East African Community (EAC) in Arusha, based in Dar es Salaam.
Beatrice Maser Mallor, currently head of the Economic Cooperation and Development Division in the Directorate of External Economic Affairs of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), which is part of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) in Bern, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Stefan Klötzli, currently first secretary to the head of mission in Canberra, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Christian Schoenenberger, currently head of mission in Kyiv, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Sweden, succeeding Ambassador Yvana Enzler, who will retire.
Guillaume Scheurer, currently first secretary to the head of mission of the Swiss Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Ukraine and to the Republic of Moldova, based in Kyiv.
Maya Jaouhari Tissafi, currently deputy director (with the title of ambassador) and head of Regional Cooperation at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Bern, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Thomas Greminger, currently ambassador and head of the Swiss Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and head of the Switzerland's Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the international organisations in Vienna, will become deputy director (with the title of ambassador) and head of Regional Cooperation at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Bern.
Claude Wild, currently ambassador and head of the Human Security Division (HSD) in the Directorate of Political Affairs in Bern, will become the new ambassador and head of the Swiss Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and head of Switzerland's Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the international organisations in Vienna.
Eric Mayoraz, currently head of mission in Antananarivo, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Republic of Niger, and the Republic of Chad, and permanent observer to the Economic Community of West African States, based in Abuja.
Philippe Brandt, currently first secretary to the head of mission in The Hague, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Madagascar, the Union of the Comoros, and the Republic of Seychelles, based in Antananarivo.
Jacques Pitteloud, currently head of mission in Nairobi, will become the new director-general (with the title of ambassador) of the Directorate for Resources (DR) in Bern.
Georg Steiner, until recently head of mission in Tripoli, has been appointed head of the Crisis Management Centre in the State Secretariat of the FDFA in Bern. To allow him to carry out his new function, the Federal Council has conferred on him the title of ambassador.
Christoph Burgener, currently head of mission in Yangon, has been appointed adviser to the head of Internal Audit in the General Secretariat of the FDFA in Bern. To allow him to carry out his new function, the Federal Council has conferred on him the title of ambassador.
Salome Meyer, currently first secretary to the head of mission in Beijing, has been appointed head of diplomatic counsel for the presidential affairs service in the Information and Communication Section of the Federal Chancellery in Bern. To allow her to carry out her new function, the Federal Council has conferred on her the title of ambassador.
(The FDFA's Presidential Affairs and Protocol section will be transferred to the Federal Chancellery as at 1 January 2015).
