Health insurance premium index 2014 – Premiums show downward trend in 2013-2014 with slight positive influence on disposable income

Neuchâtel, 01.12.2014 - (FSO) - The health insurance premium index (KVPI) registered an overall downward trend of -0.8% for premiums in 2014 compared with the previous year. This decrease can be attributed to the partly strong decline in complementary health insurance. On the basis of 1999=100, the KVPI reached an index level of 169.0 points. The KVPI, which is calculated by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), collects data on the evolution of premiums for compulsory and complementary health insurance. By means of the KVPI, the effects of the evolution of premiums on the growth of disposable income can be calculated. According to the KVPI model calculation, the slight fall in premiums influenced the growth of the average disposable income by 0.1% in 2014.
