State Secretary Michael Ambühl to take on new challenge

Bern, 24.05.2013 - On 1 September 2013, State Secretary Michael Ambühl will take on a professorship for negotiation and conflict management at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, and will leave the State Secretariat for International Financial Matters (SIF), which he heads, at the end of August 2013. The Head of the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) has already informed the Federal Council and expressed her thanks to the State Secretary for the services rendered.

As the ETH Board announced today, Michael Ambühl has been appointed Professor for Negotiation and Conflict Management at ETH Zurich. Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf took note of this decision with regret. At the same time, however, she understands that Michael Ambühl wishes to take up a new challenge. In particular, it is to be welcomed that this change will allow Michael Ambühl's extensive know-how to be passed on to younger generations. He will thus return to academia, where he lectured for ten years and was involved in teaching and research for six years before joining the Federal Administration.

State Secretary Ambühl will leave SIF by the autumn semester of ETH Zurich. The Federal Council will appoint a successor in due course. Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf is confident that the important SIF dossiers are in good hands and continuity can be ensured.
