Workshop on the human rights situation in Nepal

Berne, 19.04.2006 - On April 18, an international workshop on the deteriorating human rights situation in Nepal took place in Geneva. The event organized by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) attracted more than fifty participants. 20 countries were represented by delegates of their Geneva missions.

The Representative of the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights in Nepal, the Director of the International Commission of Jurists as well as members of the National Human Rights Commission of Nepal, the Nepal Bar Association and Nepali human rights defenders analysed the current crisis in Nepal and expressed sincere concerns about the current human rights situation and the use of violence against the democratic movement in the Himalayan country.
