Switzerland registers its candidature for the UN Security Council for 2023-24

Bern, 12.1.2011 - Today, the Federal Council has decided to register Switzerland on the list of candidates of the Western European and Others Group (WEOG) for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council in 2023-2024. Membership of the Security Council would give Switzerland an additional instrument to represent its interests and to achieve its foreign policy objectives. The Federal Council’s decision was preceded by in-depth consultations with the Parliamentary Foreign Policy Committees.
