Toni Frisch appointed new Deputy Director-General of the SDC

Bern, 22.10.2008 - The Federal Council has appointed Toni FRISCH, currently Head of the SDC’s Humanitarian Aid Department, to the post of Deputy Director-General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Toni Frisch has taken over his new function on 15 October 2008, while continuing to head the Humanitarian Aid Department.

Born in 1946 and resident of Köniz in the Canton of Bern, Toni Frisch is married and the father of two grown-up children. Upon completion of his studies with a degree in Civil Engineering, Mr. Frisch worked in the private industrial sector for an internationally active engineering firm. In 1977, he performed his first mission as a member of the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit (SHA). In 1980, Mr. Frisch joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), where he worked in the senior staff of the SHA and became its first Head of Operations. In 1987, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Humanitarian Aid Department and the SHA. Since April 2001, Toni Frisch has headed the SDC’s Humanitarian Aid Department, while also being in charge of the SHA. 

Mr. Frisch has taken over as Deputy Director-General of the SDC on 15 October 2008, and has been conferred the title of Ambassador. He will continue to head the SDC’s Humanitarian Aid Department.
