Upper Valais and Grisons: consultation on terrestrial digital television DVB-T

Biel-Bienne, 15.09.2008 - The Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) is launching a consultation to assess the requirements of parties interested in the transmission of TV programme services in digital quality in Upper Valais and Grisons. Interested parties have until 24 October 2008 to submit their proposals concerning the new DVB-T licences, which should be awarded in spring 2009.

The two radiocommunication licences for the operation of transmitter networks for television currently in effect in Upper Valais and Grisons will expire on 31 March 2009. The consultation initiated by OFCOM is intended to facilitate analysis of the requirements for the operation of new more efficient DVB-T transmitter networks in these regions. The new regional radiocommunication licences for digital television should be awarded by 1 April 2009.

The consultation is open to all interested parties (network operators, umbrella organisations in the media sector and public authorities). In the longer term, the two licences could be extended to the whole of Valais and the entire region of south-eastern Switzerland.
