New soldier's knife for the Swiss Armed Forces from Victorinox

Bern, 08.09.2008 - Victorinox will produce the new soldier's knife for the Swiss Armed Forces. The contract between Victorinox AG, Ibach, and armasuisse, the Procurement, Technology and Real Estate Center of the DDPS, was signed today. The Soldier's Knife 08 replaces the old military knife which was introduced in 1961.

armasuisse started the evaluation of the new soldier's knife with a call to tender by invitation in February 2008. A total of seven domestic and foreign tenderers were invited to take part in the evaluation procedure. In July 2008 the submitted evaluation models were tested by the troops for their military serviceability. Compliance with the technical requirements was examined in the laboratory.

Based on the utility value analysis the model with the best price/performance ratio was selected. The procurement of the 75'000 soldier's knives, incl. bag, is budgeted at 1.38 mio. CHF.

The new soldier's knife will be fielded during the first Recruit School 2009.
