Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin to attend OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris
Bern, 30.04.2024 - Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin will head the Swiss delegation at the Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris on 2 and 3 May. The theme of the meeting is ‘Shaping change together: Leading global discussions with objective and reliable approaches towards sustainable and inclusive growth’. The ministers will discuss topics such as fair trade, economic resilience and artificial intelligence.
This year’s Ministerial Council Meeting, which will be attended by all 38 OECD countries as well as the EU and partner countries, will be chaired by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The Netherlands and Mexico will act as Vice-Chairs. In view of the interlinked social, environmental and political challenges and rapid technological developments, the ministers will discuss possible joint and coordinated solutions.
The enlargement of the organisation is on the agenda of this ministerial meeting, which welcomes the 10th anniversary of the Southeast Asia Regional Programme and the accession processes of Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru, Romania and, most recently, Indonesia.
At the end of the meeting, the ministers will adopt a series of recommendations (management of state-owned enterprises, international investment, framework conditions for chemicals) and the 2024 Ministerial Declaration.
Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin will also attend a ministerial meeting on the ongoing negotiations on the Agreement on Climate Change, Trade and Sustainability (ACCTS) and an informal meeting with ministers of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
At the same time, he will take the opportunity to hold bilateral talks with a number of ministers, including Argentinian Foreign Minister Diana Mondino and Japanese Minister of State Yoshitaka Shindo.
