Implementation of the Popular Initiative “Stop Mass Immigration”

The acceptance of the mass immigration initiative by the electorate on 9 February 2014 means the Federal Council is now charged with introducing a new immigration system within three years. The Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons must be renegotiated and adapted.

Statement of the Federal Council

“Regardless of the outcome of the UK referendum, the Federal Council is eager to make progress in the current talks with the EU on the implementation of Article 121a of the Swiss Constitution.”
