Swiss Science Prize Marcel Benoist 2023 - The 2023 Marcel Benoist Prize is awarded to Ted Turlings for his discoveries in plant communication

Bern, 7.9.2023 - The Marcel Benoist Foundation awards the 2023 Marcel Benoist Prize to Ted Turlings of the University of Neuchâtel “for his remarkable contributions to the fields of chemical ecology and plant-insect interactions”. The prize ceremony will be held on 30 October 2023 in Bern. The biologist Ted Turlings made a fundamental discovery in the early 1990s: when a plant is attacked by pest insects, it emits odours to attract their predators. His work has been the basis for major progress in the understanding of plant-insect interactions. It has also opened up the way for developing new approaches in – pesticide-free – biological pest control, a central element to sustainable farming. Ted Turlings will be awarded the Marcel Benoist Prize, the highest honour for scientific research in Switzerland, on 30 October 2023 in Bern.
