Swiss Health Survey 2007: Findings from the standard tables – Rising consumption of medicines among the Swiss population

Neuchâtel, 19.2.2009 - (FSO) – Almost one in two persons in Switzerland take at least one medicine over a seven day period. This is one of the findings of the Swiss Health Survey 2007, produced by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO). Compared to previous surveys, the percentage of medicine consumers has risen. In 1992, it was still 38%. Chronic health problems and illnesses appear predominantly among the elderly. 48% of respondents aged 75 and over are affected. This is also reflected in this age group's greater use of health services.
