Farm structure survey 2011 – 1450 fewer farms

Neuchâtel, 06.08.2012 - (FSO) - In 2011, a further decline in the number of farms was recorded. With a total of 57,600 farms, there were 1450 fewer units than in 2010. The number of organic farms, on the other hand, increased by 98 units, reaching 5760 units in 2011, i.e. almost 10% of all farms. With an increase of more than 6% to more than 10,000 ha, the total field vegetable area grew significantly between 2010 and 2011. During this same period, the number of poultry rose by nearly half a million head, amounting to 9.5 million. These results are taken from the farm structure survey 2011 conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
