Statistics on tourist accommodation 2011 – Youth hostels and campsites: fall in overnight stays

Neuchâtel, 04.05.2012 - (FSO) - According to the final annual results of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), the 55 youth hostels included in the survey generated 905,000 overnight stays in 2011, i.e. a decline of 3.6% compared with 2010. The 420 campsites considered in this statistic registered 3.1 million overnight stays, representing a decrease of 6.8% compared with the previous year. In both types of accommodation, Swiss demand accounted for more than half of overnight stays, i.e. 58% in youth hostels and 56% in campsites
